You heard it here first.

The picture stinks, but you get the idea.  Harry Potter Lovers Unite! Unique Yarns will be carrying the Opal line of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince sock yarn! (YAY!!!) The yarn will arrive in the store sometime in the Fall of ‘08 in plenty of time for you to knit yourself a pair of socks to wear to the movie.  You can see pictures of the available colors here.  I believe that there will be eight different colorways representing a different HP character.  Now I fully admit that I have been an HP fan since the very first book came out, but I am beyond excited about this sock yarn.  The knitting world is all a buzz about this yarn.  Ravelry has a Harry Potter Lovers group that has been talking about it for quite some time now and you’ll be able to get it HERE!  The Opal rep was here last week and had pictures of the display and the yarn colorways.  It’s gonna be cool.  I’ll keep you posted as we get more information.

Bring on the fiber.

The yarn reps have started coming to show Becky the Fall lines and we have been having a WONDERFUL time.   Working at a yarn shop has many perks and I am appreciative of each and every one, but this might just be one of the best.  What can be better than piles of yarn to see and feel? The decision making process, however, is mind boggling.  Seriously.  When I left last night I was in yarn overload and let me tell you, I NEVER thought that would happen to me. :-)  Yesterday was Louet, Claudia Handpaint, Mountain Colors, Farmhouse……um……there was more I think, but it escapes me right now.  Today the Cascade rep comes.  Life is good.

Meet the Fiber Folks.

trina.JPGToday we are going to begin a series of posts helping you get to know the Unique Yarns staff.  We’ve added a few new faces lately, shifted some responsibilities, and renewed our commitment to be “your” yarn store.   Every few days (ok, it might be more like once a week, but I’m going to give it a high priority.) I’m going to post a blog entry about a staff member and ask that person the same six questions.  (My journalistic skills are legendary.)  Today’s Fiber Folk is Trina Anderson.

First off I must confess that this one was pretty easy for me.  Trina is one of my favorite people on the planet.  We’ve been friends for a lot of years and been through the sort of tough times that bond friends forever, so I’m eager to introduce you all to her.  She spends most of her time at Unique back in the office crunching numbers, but you will see her wandering through the shop now and then.  Never hesitate to head back and pop your head in the office to say hi! This picture says a lot about Trina.  She’s funny, a little mischievous, a total people person.   Here’s how my interview with her went:

HS: What is your favorite fiber art and when did you begin?

TA: Wow.  That’s a toss up between knitting and crocheting.  Learned to knit at age 6 and to crochet at age 4.  I started knitting and crocheting seriously in my senior year of high school.  I made my mother an afghan that I still have.

HS: Do you have a favorite “go to” fiber?

TA: (laughs) No, I think I love them all.

HS: Of all your fiber projects, do you have one that you love the most?

TA: Probably afghans.  I seem to finish those.  Doesn’t that say something?

HS: What else do you love to do when you aren’t playing with fiber?

TA: Read, read, read, read.  (ed. note: Trina and I first met when we were both working at the Roscoe Library.) Pet my kitties, spend time with my husband and daughter.  Enjoy my friends.

HS: What’s on your needles right now?

TA:  Which set of needles? :-)  Yarn swatches for the store, sweaters, poncho, bowl, mittens, bag, scarf, jewelry, shawl. (refer to question 3.  There seems to be a pattern forming here.)

HS: Final question.  What is something about you that you would like customers to know about you?

TA: That I like meeting and talking to new people.  I just like people.
